ARC welcomes HFC phasedown

THE Australian Refrigeration Council (ARC) has welcomed the Federal Government’s commitment to phase-down HFCs by 85 per cent by 2036 as providing certainty to industry.

“Australia heads the world, already regulating for the handling and use of HFC refrigerants under the ARCTick licence scheme, which has minimised emissions for the past 10 years,” said a statement from the licensing body.

“The Montreal Protocol has effected a transition away from older, ozone depleting CFCs and HCFCs, to the newer HFCs which are synthetic greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming.

“This announcement provides some certainty to the refrigeration and air conditioning industry regarding the likely future supplies of HFCs and equipment using HFC refrigerant.”
