TRAINING PROVIDERS AND/OR ASSESSORS IN AUTO AIR CONDITIONING In the months leading up to the start of the new national licensing scheme, and amid a very confusing training and assessment scene, Australia wide, VASA conducted a simple survey of all those Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) which were shown on the ANTA database to be approved for delivery of Certificate II in automotive air conditioning. There were 53 institutions, mainly TAFE colleges on that list. Of that number, only 30 responded. We made it clear in the survey explanation, that no response could only be interpreted as meaning that the college did not provide this training. VASA takes no responsibility for the information provided in this chart and also takes no responsibility for the accuracy of the information. Interpreting a great deal of the information provided was a minefield in itself, so VASA also makes it clear that it is not responsible for the conclusions it has reached, where the information provided has been obscure or difficult to understand. What the exercise did show was that the delivery of training, the time it takes and the cost involved, is very much open to interpretation and varies widely from place to place. VASA makes no recommendations about the value of the training provided, nor can it comment on the standard of training or the trainers. That, it appears, also varies from place to place. It is really up to the individual to take the time to judge for themselves whether the training meets their expectations. We have provided contact names and phone numbers and can only recommend that technicians or workshop owners seeking training for apprentices or mature technicians, should seek out the institution closest to them and start the long and laborious process of checking out their products and their standard of delivery.
